Ants Can Move a Papaya Tree Plant

I noticed the ants on my balcony were moving a papaya seed that had germinated in my compost bin. Out of all the seeds in the compost, only this one particular one had a fair number of ants around it. It seemed that they were trying to move it. To where and why I have no idea. Wonder if the fact that it's germinating has anything to do with their interest. Maybe they want a papaya tree in their nest.

I dumped a pack of old mashed potato mix into a flower pot on my balcony and within a minute ants started to haul this mountain of food back to their nest. Since the mashed potato mix is white it was very easy to track where the ants were going.

An hour after dumping the mashed potato mix, I saw at least two streams of ants exiting the flower pot in opposite directions, one heading into the wooden table you see in the video, the other towards the balcony wall. So, there seems to be at last two separate ant nests of the same species living on my balcony.

Eating My Teva Sandals

I found the ants eating the rubber off my Teva sandals which I store in a shoe rack on my balcony. The ants were gnawing away at the blue part of the sandal that says "Teva." I have no idea why these ants would want to chew rubber. They came in to my house before to gnaw at the rubber grommets on my stereo speakers. Weird.

Roach for Breakfast

Found the ants tearing a cockroach apart on the balcony one morning. Funny how they would barely touch any roach I gave them while they were in an ant farm. In the wild, they seem to devour anything they come across. Perhaps they are much hungrier in a natural environment where food isn't handed to them on a platter like in an ant farm.

Ants Farming Aphids

I noticed a ton of ants on a little hot pepper plant that is growing on my balcony. Upon closer inspection I saw that there were tending to a ton of aphids all over the underside of the leaves. Apparently they are farming these aphids for a sweet liquid they secrete.

Inside the Instant Noodle Container

I moved the container of instant noodles, which had a steady stream of tiny ants going in and out of it, outside to my balcony. The next day I decided to open it up and see if indeed I had a colony of ants inside. Check out the video to find out what I saw.

Queens Coming of Instant Noodle Ant Farm!

I see queens coming out of the instant noodle container that apparently is playing host to a nest of tiny black ants. I has been raining recently, so maybe that's what caused them to start coming out.
